March/April/May goals

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on March 28, 2010 by Korby

I’ve started on the Shadow’s Edge quest, which means I need 25 Primordial Saronite.  At 23 Frost badges a pop that’s not particularly cheap or easy/quick to achieve.  Compounding that, Korby needs a new helm, which I’ve decided will be the Ymirjar Lord’s Helmet, which costs 95 Frost badges.  Thus, Korby’s badges will go towards that goal, while my 3 other 80s will be doing daily dungeons for the other Frost badges.  25*23=575 badges, which is about 90 days of daily dungeons.  Hopefully I can get some weekly raid quests done as well, for some 5 badge boosts to those totals.  Once Korby reaches 95 badges for his helm, then he can start spending on Saronite as well, but if you ignore ICC and weekly raid rewards, I’ll have the 25th piece of Saronite bought on June 8th, assuming I don’t miss any days.

Two weeks in one shot

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on August 5, 2009 by Korby

I know, I’m like 2 weeks behind on keeping this updated.  In a nutshell, Korby and Innoruuk are both done with the Argent valient quests, having become a champion of every city.  Aaeru is 67, just learned basic flying on her thanks to today’s patch.  Did a handful of heroics on Innoruuk, replaced most of his greens with BoE blues that dropped.  Korby got a BoE Uld25 head, and legs from the new Trial of the Champion 5 man heroic.  Also built Jeeves today, but I think I’ll still carry around some Scrapbots because the 2 hour cooldown on Jeeves is kind of annoying.  Been diligently performing gylph research on Dalkado every day, so I have probably half or more of the minors.  I guess daily dungeons are something I’ll be doing again now, since I get two Triumphs from it.  I’m also 30 Conquests away from buying the chest piece, so that’s a goal as well for me.

Epic impatience

I think I’m going to go ahead and buy epic flight on Innoruuk tomorrow.  I have just under 7k total across my guys, so it’s definitely something I can afford to do.  This will let me get going on the Netherwing reputation quests, which I’ve kind of been itching to try out at level 80. I can only imagine that the mines are so much easier to move around in with an extra 10 levels under my belt.  I kinda hated going in there when I did it on Korby, because it just felt like such a chore to grind my way through all the mobs.

Greatness

Got my Darkmoon Card: Greatness today when the Faire opened.  Had to spend 700g on the last card, which I know is way above my set limit, but when all you’ve seen for the last 2 weeks were prices averaging 900g, 700g looked like a beautiful deal.  Plus I found a new way to make money, so I could afford it.  What’s that you ask?  A way to make money?  Earn 10k honor, buy rare gem, sell gem on AH for gold.  I turned 70k honor into 316g, so yeah, I figured I could spend a little more on my last card.

I’ve been leveling Innoruuk now that the Midsummer Fire Festival (MSFF) is over.  He’s 77 now, but I’m stubborningly waiting for the 3.2 patch to go in before I spend any money on flying training or a mount.  Once he hits 80, I’ll shelve him and level Dalkado, and then Aaeru.

Burning Out On Bonfires

Done with Dalkado’s fires, as well as Innoruuk’s. I think I’ll take my time this week in doing my lower level alts, since they have no mounts and thus will have to run slowly to the fires that I think they can safely get to. Yeah, I’m not going to do crazy Northrend fire runs with them. I just don’t have the patience to do that three more times.

Started leveling Inscription on Dalkado today. He’s at 200 skill. It’s kind of a pain, since Innoruuk is the one with the Herbalism skill. I have to farm with him, then mail the herbs to Dalkado so he can mill them. Then if I wind up needing more herbs, I have to switch back and farm some more. It’s slow and a tad convoluted, but it works. Hopefully he’ll be at or near at least 400 by the end of the week.

It’s in the Cards

I’ve got about 5500 gold now, and it’s very tempting to go and spend it on some Darkmoon Nobles cards.  There are a couple completed sets on the AH for roughly that amount, but if you price check all 8 cards individually, you can save about 600g in total.  I’ve got about  weeks before the next faire comes around, so I think I’ll just pick up each card as I find them for sale under 500g between now and then.  Pair that up with doing dailies, and I’ll maintain a nice amount of cash as I go along.

Using the site lootrank.com, I put together a list of the best warrior DPS gear that I could obtain outside of any raids. I’ve managed to get my hands on all but 5 of them, so it’s nice to feel self-sufficient, but the desire to raid Naxx is still churning within me. Speaking of Naxx, I actually got to join a 25-man raid today. I only linked for one of the drops, and wasn’t awarded it, but the opportunity presented itself to me at least, so that’s pacifying to my need to see some endgame content. Military and Arachnid wings went into my achievements. Hopefully I’ll be able to benefit from more Naxx runs, so that I’m not left out in the cold wanting to see Ulduar too.

I worked my way to exalted with Sons of Hodir, mostly because I wanted to save enough money to build myself a motorcycle, which costs about 18k in total materials to build. Kind of a rip when you consider the flying machine was almost entirely player gatherable aside from a few vendor purchased items. Anyways, so I reach exalted, take a look at what is now available to me from the quartermaster, and I see the Grand Ice Mammoth for 8k. So I’m curious about what makes that mount so damn awesome that it costs 8k. Turns out it’s because it has 2 empty seats on it for other people to ride with you. Hrm, 8k for a 3-person mount, or 18k for a two person mount. Yeah, to hell with the motorcycle. It may look really cool, but it’s a rip off. The Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth that can be bought in Dalaran for 16k (at exalted with Kirin Tor), also is a 3-person mount, but it has vendors in those two extra seats, so that’s why it costs twice as much. Again a rip off if you’re an engineer, since you can cheaply build repair bots out of 10 saronite bars.

Now I’m saving money for my DK’s epic flight. He’s currently 65, so I figure that my the time he’s 77, I’ll be able to afford the training for him. That’s just 567 gold per level. I can do that. I’m really impressed by the efficiency with which he kills things. I’m specing him 18/0/53 Unholy, and I’ve found that I can kill most anything at or near my level with just 5 key strokes. Icy Touch, Plague Strike, Death Strike, Scourge Strike, and Death Coil. Typically, just hitting those abilities in that order keeps me at or near full health and kills whatever I’m attacking. Elite mobs require going through a few more cycles of that rotation, with heavy emphasis on Plague and Death Strike, and Blood Boil plus Summon Gargoyle to add a little more DPS to the mix. When they say that playing a DK is like putting the game into easy mode, they’re right. It’s just ridiculously easy.
